WHO WE HELP
My name is Maureen Ferreria, executive director of Hearts
& Hooves Sacramento. I am pleased to announce that I am
bringing a wonderful new service to the greater Sacramento
area. Hearts & Hooves bring specially trained Miniature
Horses into hospices, nursing homes, Autistic schools, special-needs
classrooms, and Alzheimer’s clinics.
Our current schedule
of visits includes Sacramento Children’s Receiving
Home, Avalon Hospice, and the Landpark Academy . Patients,
their families, as well as care givers and staff members
all benefit when Hearts & Hooves brings a Mini to lighten
the day.
Hearts & Hooves became a nationally recognized non-profit
organization after appearing on the Today Show in June 2004,
which featured Veronique Mathews who founded Hearts & Hooves
out of Austin , Texas three years ago. We were also featured
on Animal Planet shortly thereafter.
I recently returned
from intensive national training in Austin. Hearts &
Hooves Sacramento is one of only 4 affiliates in the country
and the first one in the West. We at Hearts & Hooves are
excited about bringing our very small horses with very big
hearts to those needing healing and inspiration.
